Welcoming the Dragon Year

It's wedding season again for my group of friends with notification of wedding dinners to attend next year. In fact, I'm told in the chinese zodiac: next year ; the year of Dragon is a good year for marriage. The Dragon symbolises happiness, success, good fortune and benevolent power. Dragons are considered to be bringers of good fortune. Dragons have traditionally been viewed as powerful, wise and majestic. The dragon is considered the strongest and most positive of the 12 Chinese signs.

Interesting to note is there are even auspicious dates to tell you what you should do, when you should marry and all such as below. (taken from another blog for info)

However, in the end, it's all up to yourself. When you choose a date or what you do, it's up to your own believes or in the case of marriages, I believe the parents/ grandparents/ older relatives might be more concerned about this than some of my friends.

My BTB friends (BTB=bride-to-be) are busy arranging their marriages while researching through forums and from other brides/btb friends. It's quite fun tagging along to help friends to choose wedding gowns and such. But when you think carefully, the amount of money people in Malaysia spend for wedding is extravagant. In fact, it's such a booming business that photographers can charge RM1k extra the following year for the same wedding photography package! Or even a "wedding gown" designer will double her price within a new year.

True, there's inflation and people have to make money to survive. But looking at all these cost, it's no wonder my boyfriend shudders at any thought of getting married.. ? :p *ahem*
